    While there are many current methodologies with this objective in mind, the surge of microservice architecture has proven particularly efficacious for many enterprise applications. By breaking down once monolithic applications into their various service-oriented components, they become easier to not only develop but too test, a win-win in today’s competitive industry landscape.

    “Microservices enlarge team empowerment and reduce coupling, allowing individual teams to innovate faster, reduce cross-team communication, and feel empowered to do their own decisions regarding architecture, language, and frameworks,” says EJ Campbell, vice president of engineering, sports, and media production engineering at Verizon Media Group.

    But making the switch to a microservices framework too comes with its unique challenges, as explained in a recent article from CIO. While this atomize down of applications increases team autonomy, it too creates a lot more stirring pieces, says Jay Bercher, deputy program manager at Solutions By Design II. “Each stirring piece requires its own smooth of maintenance, and the back and supervision of so many elements not only makes the solution more complex, but too increases associated costs.”

    Employ Domain-Driven Design

    “While there are various methods and methodologies for development, domain-driven design and microservices issue to be a impeccable match,” says Bercher. “In their work…each evolution team is responsible for a domain and too responsible for developing the corresponding microservice. This creates a clear delineation of responsibilities, which in gyrate limits redundancies that can occur in parallel evolution efforts.”

    Don’t participate Databases Between Microservices

    “In building their decoupled services, they are allowing their evolution teams to build their own database that feeds their [back-end systems], which limits dependencies from other evolution teams,” explains Bercher. “Because code isn’t propagated across the entire platform, they can quickly seclude issues to a specific source and then track them within the microservices.”

    Consider building Applications From Scratch

    “One of the challenges they encountered when they decided to migrate to microservices,” explains John Nicholas, CTO of Carrington Mortgage Holdings, “was whether or not to atomize the application up piece-by-piece or perform a replete rewrite.” While choosing the latter option “was a huge task and required massive efforts from barnone their team members…it has already proven its worth in the short epoch of time since the transition.”

    Focus on Change Management

    “A faster evolution process is great, but don’t lose the benefits of microservices by leaving out change control and other primary governance processes,” says Ron Hayman, chief cloud officer at Avant Communications. “Ensure that you align change control and the approval process to match your agile evolution lifecycle.”
