Guru: exchange XML aspects in SQL | real Questions and Pass4sure dumps

February 18, 2019 Paul Tuohy

Over the ultimate few years, it has develop into more commonplace to hold XML or JSON in a column in a desk. Whereas SQL provides entire the imperative capabilities to construct/deconstruct XML or JSON from/to relational data, it does not give an simple means to alternate the contents of a part. in this article, i am going to demonstrate a routine for changing the contents of an XML factor using an SQL saved system.

simply to provide some historical past, i used to live currently working on a mission the locality DB2 XML Extender performance become being replaced with the regular XML features. The project changed into undertaken as a result of DB2 XML Extender is no longer supported on IBM i. DB2 XML Extender had an replace characteristic which allowed for criterion updates to XML points or attributes, however there isn't any equal basic regular SQL function. The IBM Redbook “changing DB2 XML Extender with integrated IBM DB2 for i XML capabilities” shows that the XSLTRANSFORM duty will likewise live used to obtain the equal influence, but this might require an further chargeable product (XML Toolkit for IBM gadget i5® – 5733-XT2 alternate options 1 and 6) and using an XSLT template. entire of this seemed slightly advanced simply to invent simple alterations to XML aspects. My solution changed into to utilize an RPG program.

The Challenges

there were a number of difficulties:

  • directly manipulating the contents of an XML statistics classification, in RPG, is not practicable. The XML variable must first live solid to a character variable. since the 32K maximum measurement of a VARCHAR may additionally no longer live great adequate, they deserve to consume a CLOB.
  • besides the fact that children the alternative can live to beget a person-described characteristic (UDF), unfortunately SQL doesn't permit a CLOB to live returned from a UDF calling an RPG program. The RPG program must live wrapped as a saved procedure, which makes it just a bit extra tricky to use. If any individual has any insights into these considerations, tickle contact me.
  • using The saved procedure

    To disclose using the saved method, they requisite to create two world variables

    Then they apportion a value to the XML variable:

    set testxml = xmlparse(document 'YouMe');

    to transform the contents of the <from> element, they start by means of casting the XML to a CLOB

    set testclob = xmlserialize(testxml as CLOB(1049586));

    Then they convene the saved procedure to exchange the contents of the <from> element. The parameters are:

  • The CLOB containing the XML.
  • The course to the constituent to live modified. elements are delimited by a ‘/’. in this illustration they are altering the <from> factor in the <word> factor. There isn't any deserve to live anxious about no matter if or no longer you start and discontinuance the direction list with a ‘/’, the RPG application will locality or salvage rid of the main/trailing ‘/’ as required. if you are looking to change the content material of an attribute, as antagonistic to a component, precede the denomination of the attribute with an ‘@’.
  • the novel cost for the factor.
  • name replaceXMLElement(testclob, 'notice/from/', 'Paul');

    ultimately, they solid the CLOB again to the XML variable:

    call replaceXMLElement(testclob, 'note/from/', 'Paul');

    If they appear on the contents of the XML variable:

    opt for testxml from sysibm.sysdummy1;

    We behold the up-to-date XML:

    YouPaul The RPG program

    this is the program that does the entire work. youngsters the program does not comprise any SQL operations, it should live described as an SQLRPGLE member (and live compiled using CRTSQLRPGI) due to the fact it consists of the definition of an SQL facts type. tickle dispute with the callouts in the code below:

  • The definition of an SQL CLOB will outcomes in the definition of an information constitution. in this case a data constitution named DATACLOB containing the subfields DATACLOB_LEN and DATACLOB_DATA.
  • make sure that the path string ends with a dwindle (/) and doesn't start with a decrease.
  • Use the subfields in the DATACLOB records structure to replica the contents of the CLOB to a varying box. besides the fact that children SQL may beget a 32K restrict on the size of a VARCHAR variable, the restrict in RPG is 16M.
  • find the birth locality (within the CLOB) and the length of the facts to live changed. here is the content material of the aspect/attribute.
  • alternate the cost.
  • copy the caring box back to the subfields within the CLOB statistics structure.
  • Loop via every aspect denomination within the requested course. Extract the factor denomination and ascertain for it.
  • Calculate the start locality and length of the constituent or attribute.
  • **free ctl-opt choice(*srcstmt: *nodebugIO) dftactgrp(*no); (1) dcl-s dataCLOB SQLTYPE(CLOB: 1049586) ; dcl-pr replaceXMLElement extPgm('REPELEM'); CLOBIn likeDS(dataCLOB) ; searchForElement varChar(3000) const; replaceWith varChar(one thousand) const; end-Pr; dcl-pi replaceXMLElement; CLOBIn likeDS(dataCLOB) ; searchForElement varChar(3000) const; replaceWith varChar(a thousand) const; conclusion-Pi; dcl-s varForCLOB varChar(1049586: four) ; dcl-s searchFor like(searchForElement); dcl-s elemStart int(10); dcl-s elemLength int(10); // ensure direction search ends with a / and does not birth with / searchFor = %trim(searchForElement); if (%len(searchFor) > 0); (2) if (%subst(searchFor: %len(searchFor): 1) <> '/'); searchFor += '/'; endIf; if (%subst(searchFor: 1: 1) = '/'); searchFor = %exchange('': searchFor: 1: 1); endIf; endIf; // return if no legitimate CLOB or search element if (CLOBIn.dataCLOB_len <= 0 or %len(searchFor) <= 0); return; endIf; // replica CLOB contents to various field (three) varForCLOB = %subSt(CLOBIn.dataCLOB_data: 1: CLOBIn.dataCLOB_len); // ascertain the birth position and length of statistics to live modified (4) findElement(searchFor: varForClob: elemStart: elemLength); // exchange the content material of the factor if ((elemStart > 0 and elemStart <= %len(varForCLOB) ) and elemLength > 0); (5) varForCLOB = %change(replaceWith: varForCLOB: elemStart: elemLength); endIf; // copy the records returned to the CLOB (6) CLOBIn.dataCLOB_data = varForCLOB; CLOBIn.dataCLOB_len = %len(varForCLOB); return; dcl-proc findElement; // find the delivery position and length of the content material of // the requested constituent or attribute. // Scan during the course tree an constituent at a time dcl-Pi *n; searchFor like(searchForElement) const; varForCLOB varChar(1049586: four) const; elemStart int(10); elemLength int(10); conclusion-Pi; dcl-s i int(10) inz(1); dcl-s j int(10); dcl-s elementIs varChar(a thousand); dcl-s workStart int(10) inz(1); dcl-s isAttribute ind; dcl-s fromChar char(1) inz('>'); dcl-s toChar char(1) inz('<'); (7) doU (i = 0 or i >= %len(searchFor)); j = %scan('/': searchFor: i); if ((j-i) <= 0); return; endIf; elementIs = %subst(searchFor: i: j - i); isAttribute = (%subst(elementIs: 1: 1) = '@'); if isAttribute; elementIs = %replace('': elementIs: 1: 1); fromChar = '"'; toChar = '"'; endIf; i = j + 1; workStart = %scan(elementIs: varForCLOB: workStart); if (workStart = 0); return; endIf; endDo; video display; (8) elemStart = %scan(fromChar: varForCLOB: workStart) + 1; if (elemStart > 0); j = %scan(toChar: varForCLOB: elemStart + 1); endIf; elemLength = j - elemStart; on-error; elemStart = 0; elemLength = 0; endMon; conclusion-Proc; The kept process

  • The advice administration portfolio of items
  • How DB2 is developed
  • DB2 server variations and consumers
  • How DB2 is packaged for builders
  • Syntax diagram conventions
  • given that the Seventies, when IBM research invented the Relational mannequin and the Structured query Language (SQL), IBM has developed a complete family of facts servers. progress begun on mainframe platforms comparable to virtual desktop (VM), virtual Storage extended (VSE), and multiple digital Storage (MVS). In 1983, DB2 for MVS version 1 changed into born. "DB2" became used to witness a shift from hierarchical databases—such as the advice administration tackle (IMS) gardenvariety on the time—to the novel relational databases. DB2 structure continued on mainframe systems as well as on disbursed structures.1Figure 1.1 suggests one of the highlights of DB2 heritage.

    In 1996, IBM introduced DB2 common Database (UDB) edition 5 for distributed platforms. With this edition, DB2 was capable of store entire kinds of electronic data, including ordinary relational facts, in addition to audio, video, and textual content files. It turned into the primary version optimized for the web, and it supported more than a few dispensed platforms—for example, OS/2, windows, AIX, HP-UX, and Solaris—from multiple providers. additionally, this conventional database changed into able to rush on loads of hardware, from uniprocessor programs and symmetric multiprocessor (SMP) techniques to vastly parallel processing (MPP) systems and clusters of SMP methods.

    notwithstanding the relational model to redeem information is essentially the most widespread within the trade today, the hierarchical model never misplaced its importance. in the past few years, due to the recognition of eXtensible Markup Language (XML), a resurgence in the consume of the hierarchical mannequin has taken place. XML, a versatile, self-describing language, depends on the hierarchical model to store facts. With the emergence of latest internet applied sciences, the should store unstructured styles of statistics, and to share and trade information between agencies, XML proves to live the greatest language to meet these needs. today they behold an exponential boom of XML documents utilization.

    IBM recognized early on the value of XML, and great investments were made to convey pureXML know-how; a expertise that offers for stronger assist to redeem XML documents in DB2. After five years of development, the hassle of 750 builders, architects, and engineers paid off with the release of the primary hybrid facts server in the market: DB2 9. DB2 9, purchasable considering July 2006, is a hybrid (also called multi-structured) statistics server because it allows for storing relational statistics, as well as hierarchical data, natively. whereas different records servers in the market, and former versions of DB2 might shop XML documents, the storage routine used changed into now not gold criterion for performance and adaptability. With DB2 9's pureXML know-how, XML documents are kept internally in a parsed hierarchical method, as a tree; for this reason, working with XML files is tremendously enhanced. In 2007, IBM has long gone even additional in its sheperd for pureXML, with the liberate of DB2 9.5. DB2 9.5, the newest edition of DB2, no longer best enhances and introduces novel points of pureXML, but it surely likewise brings improvements in installing, manageability, administration, scalability and performance, workload administration and monitoring, regulatory compliance, issue decision, assist for utility construction, and sheperd for trade companion functions.

    DB2 is purchasable for a lot of structures including gadget z (DB2 for z/OS) and system i (DB2 for i5/OS). until in any other case noted, after they consume the time age DB2, they are relating to DB2 version 9.5 working on Linux, UNIX, or windows.

    1.2 The duty of DB2 within the tips on demand world

    IBM's course or approach is based on some key concepts and applied sciences:

    On-Demand BusinessInformation On demand (IOD)carrier-Oriented architecture (SOA)web ServicesXML

    during this section they report each of those concepts, and they clarify the locality DB2 fits in the approach.

    1.2.1 On-Demand enterprise

    We are live in a knotty world with complicated desktop programs where trade is a constant. on the identical time, shoppers beget become more stressful and less tolerant of mistakes. In a difficult environment dote this, groups should react directly to market changes; in any other case, they might live left behind by pass of competitors. with a view to react without delay, a company must live built-in and flexible. In other words, a trade today has to live an on-demand business.

    An on-demand company, as defined by IBM, is "an enterprise whose trade processes -- integrated discontinuance to conclusion throughout the enterprise and with key partners, suppliers and valued clientele -- can reply with pace to any consumer demand, market possibility, or external danger."

    IBM's on-demand enterprise mannequin is in accordance with this definition. To advocate the on-demand mannequin, IBM uses the e-enterprise framework shown in device 1.2.

    determine 1.2 The IBM e-business framework

    In device 1.2 the dotted line divides the rational ideas on the desirable with the actual implementation at the bottom. Conceptually, the IBM e-business framework is according to the on-demand enterprise model working environment, which has four primary features: it's integrated, open, virtualized, and autonomic. These characteristics are explained later in this part. The enviornment beneath the dotted line illustrates how this environment is carried out by means of the suite of IBM application items.

  • Rational is the "construct" application portfolio; it is used to boost utility.
  • advice management (the locality DB2 belongs) and WebSphere are the "run" application portfolios; they shop and maneuver your information and control your purposes.
  • Tivoli is the "manage" application portfolio; it integrates, gives security, and manages your common systems.
  • Lotus is the "collaborate" application portfolio used for integration, messaging, and collaboration across entire of the other application portfolios.
  • The IBM DB2 application plays a necessary position within the on-demand operating ambiance. entire elements of the assistance administration portfolio, including DB2, are developed with the four primary traits of the on-demand enterprise mannequin in mind.

  • built-in: DB2 software has built-in sheperd for each Microsoft and Java progress environments. it is additionally integrated into WebSphere, Tivoli, Lotus, and Rational products. in addition, the DB2 family has pass-platform capabilities and can live built-in natively with net services and message-queuing technologies. It additionally provides aid for heterogeneous facts sources for both structured and unstructured information, including pureXML aid.
  • Open: DB2 utility permits for different applied sciences to link and integrate with the aid of following requisites. accordingly, it provides mighty sheperd for the Linux operating system and for Java, XML, net functions, grid computing, and different foremost trade applications.
  • Virtualized: Grid computing know-how, a kindhearted of distributed computing, collects and shares materials in a gigantic community to simulate one tremendous, digital computer. DB2 utility items sheperd grid computing technology through federation and integration technologies. each of these are discussed in additional constituent later during this chapter.
  • Autonomic: An autonomic computing device manages, repairs, and protects itself. As systems become extra complicated, autonomic computing methods will revolve into simple. DB2 provides self-tuning capabilities, dynamic adjustment and tuning, criterion and silent installing techniques, and integration with Tivoli for device protection and management.
  • The backside of device 1.2 indicates the operating programs by which the IBM application suite can function: Linux, UNIX, home windows, i5/OS, and z/OS. below that, the servers, storage, and community An on-demand company depends on having tips available on demand, whenever it is required, by means of individuals, tools, or functions. tips On demand is discussed in the subsequent section.

    1.2.2 suggestions On Demand

    tips On Demand, as its identify implies, is making counsel accessible on every occasion people, tools, or purposes demand or request it. This may likewise live made viable by pass of featuring counsel as a service. IBM commonly uses the illustration in determine 1.3 to justify what "tips as a provider" means. Let's consume the following example to justify this conception in a more exciting method. anticipate you are the universal supervisor of a supermarket, and your leading goal is to invent this trade ecocnomic. to achieve this, you should invent agreeable decisions, akin to the pass to parade objects on cabinets so that they sell extra. so as to invent decent decisions, you should beget up-todate, legit advice.

    figure 1.3 tips as a provider

    As depicted at the backside of device 1.3, many corporations nowadays beget a great number of heterogeneous sources of information. For this inevitable instance let's weigh on your suppliers consume SAP and DB2, your sales department makes consume of an internally developed application, your smaller grocery store consumers consume Peoplesoft, and Oracle, and the like. accordingly, you behold a number of heterogeneous purposes with semi-raw information, for you to most effective live advantageous to you in case you can integrate entire of them. in an effort to integrate the statistics, it needs to live offered as a provider, and here's viable by utilizing necessities comparable to JDBC and ODBC, and wrapping each and every of these purposes as an internet service. once the statistics are integrated, you may additionally salvage a hold of decisions that may no longer were rational in any other case, such as inserting beer and diapers in the identical aisle with a purpose to sell more of each items.

    With the data integrated you could additional therapeutic massage it to operate some additional evaluation and salvage insightful relationships. This extra massaging of the statistics will likewise live carried out by using other utility, reminiscent of entity analytics, grasp statistics, etc as shown on the prerogative side of the determine. at last, this built-in statistics will likewise live handed to other tactics, tools and functions, and americans for additional analysis.

    1.2.3 provider-Oriented structure

    service-Oriented structure (SOA), as its denomination implies, is an structure in line with capabilities -- notably internet functions. SOA isn't a product, however a methodology, a pass to design methods that allow for integration, flexibility, loosely coupled add-ons, and improved code reuse. With this architecture, company actions are handled as services that can likewise live accessed on demand during the network.

    figure 1.4, which is likewise used in lots of IBM displays, depicts the SOA lifecycle. It includes 4 iterative steps or levels—mannequin, collect, set up, manage—and a fifth step that provides guidance entire over the cycle: Governance & procedures.

    determine 1.four The SOA Lifecycle

    A extra distinctive rationalization of each stage within the SOA lifecycle is supplied in desk 1.2.

    1.2.4 web services

    an internet provider, as its denomination implies, is a provider made obtainable through the internet. A extra formal, however noiseless basic definition states that an internet service is a pass for an software to denomination a duty over the community; however, there is no should comprehend

  • The locality the locality this characteristic can live finished
  • The platform through which the characteristic will rush (as an example Linux, UNIX, home windows, the mainframe, Mac OS/X, and so forth.)
  • The programming language by which the duty was created (for example Java, Cobol, C, and so on.)
  • internet functions are effective as a result of they enable corporations to exchange suggestions with minimal or no human intervention. Let's proceed lower back to the grocery store instance to ascertain the power of internet capabilities in a greater practical situation:

    for example you order a hundred,000 cookies from a supplier, anticipating entire of them to live sold in a solitary month. After the month passes handiest 60,000 are sold, so you are left with 40,000. because these are cookies of a discrete variety, they'll rupture in two weeks. You should act quickly and sell them to other smaller supermarkets or cyber web businesses similar to or eBay. that you may seize the cell and spend a complete morning calling each and every of the smaller grocery store purchasers, offering them as many cookies as they might requisite to buy from you; otherwise you may engage a more "technical" strategy and develop a simple utility that would carryout that for you automatically. Assuming each of those smaller supermarket valued clientele provide web functions, you may strengthen an application (in any programming language) that lets you SQL insert overstocked gadgets, such because the 40,000 cookies, prerogative into a DB2 database desk overstock. You might then silhouette a trigger on this desk which invokes a DB2 kept routine (more about triggers and kept procedures in Chapter 7, Working with Database Objects) that might consume net features offered by the cyber web groups or the smaller grocery store valued clientele. This situation of affairs is depicted in determine 1.5.

    figure 1.5 the consume of an internet service

    As which you could behold from device 1.5, the primary act of inserting forty,000 cookies via your application into the desk overstock in the DB2 server enables the systems of many smaller supermarkets and internet businesses, by utilizing their internet services, to invent the cookies available on their programs instantly, opening novel income channels. In determine 1.5, DB2 is behaving as an internet provider consumer, because it is using or "ingesting" the web functions, while the smaller supermarket customers and cyber web agencies are behaving as the web carrier providers, as a result of they're making these web capabilities accessible for others to invent consume of. For simplicity applications, they beget neglected in determine 1.5 the convene to a stored technique. This situation of affairs suggests the verve of internet functions: company-to-company exchange of assistance the usage of purposes. There is no want for human intervention. DB2 and web services could live discussed in more aspect in Chapter 10, getting to know the DB2 pureXML assist.

    1.2.5 XML

    XML stands for eXtensible Markup Language. XML's recognition and consume has grown exponentially in the past few years, as it is a core component of many novel applied sciences. The easiest pass to live sensible how XML works is through evaluating it to HTML, due to the fact that many americans nowadays are commonplace with HTML. Let's engage a glance at the following line in an HTML doc:

    RaulIn the above line, the tag shows the manner you might want to parade the text, during this case, Raul in bold. Now Let's engage a glance on the following line in an XML document: Raul in the above line, the tag describes the text Raul. The tag is maxim that Raul is basically a name. behold the change? In HTML, tags are used to witness the pass you would want to disclose the records; in XML, tags are used to truly report the data. table 1.three describes the qualities of XML. table 1.3 traits of XML XML characteristic Description bendyXML is a multifaceted language since it is effortless to alter or adapt. XML is based on a hierarchical model, which is most acceptable to hold unstructured types of counsel such as fiscal tips, actuality sciences tips (as an instance Genome, DNA), etc. handy to expandXML is handy to lengthen; it really is, that you could create your personal tags. for example, apart from the tag within the instance above, you might create novel tags equivalent to , , etc. This skill that you would live able to create your own language or protocol in line with XML. Describes itself XML can report itself; yet another document known as an XML Schema (which itself is an XML doc) is used to deliver rules and descriptions as to what every of the tags in a document carryweight and restrict the category of data the tags can contain. An older formula, but nevertheless favorite nowadays, is to consume DTD documents. within the above example, an XML Schema or DTD doc can point out that the tag can most effective live used to shop characters. can likewise live converted to other formats GXML can live changed to other codecs dote HTML, the usage of Extensible Stylesheet Language Transformations (XSLT), a language used for the transformation of XML files. independent of the platform or dealer XML is unbiased of the platform or vendor; in spite of everything, XML documents may likewise live saved in text info containing tags. text documents are supported in entire places. easy to shareXML is effortless to share with different functions, companies, and tactics considering it may likewise live saved as a text document. since it is handy to share, it's acceptable as the core of internet functions. XML is likewise at the core of web 2.0 construction technologies. internet 2.0, as defined in Wikipedia. org "refers to a perceived second technology of internet-based mostly communities and hosted features -- reminiscent of social-networking sites, wikis, and folksonomies -- which facilitate collaboration and sharing between clients". Wikis, blogs, mash-ups, RSS or atom feeds, and so forth, which are a fragment of net 2.0 structure applied sciences, are entire in keeping with or involving XML. This makes DB2 9.5 the most fulfilling statistics server platform for internet 2.0 construction. desk 1.4 describes the discrete technologies that are fragment of internet 2.0. Introduction to DB2 | real questions and Pass4sure dumps

    This chapter introduced DB2 and its history, discusses the types of clients and servers available with DB2, and covers the types of clients and servers available with DB2.

    This chapter is from the book 

    DATABASE 2 (DB2) for Linux, UNIX, and Windows is a data server developed by IBM. Version 9.5, available since October 2007, is the most current version of the product, and the one on which they focus in this book.

    In this chapter you will learn about the following:

  • The history of DB2
  • The information management portfolio of products
  • How DB2 is developed
  • DB2 server editions and clients
  • How DB2 is packaged for developers
  • Syntax diagram conventions
  • Since the 1970s, when IBM Research invented the Relational Model and the Structured Query Language (SQL), IBM has developed a complete family of data servers. progress started on mainframe platforms such as Virtual Machine (VM), Virtual Storage Extended (VSE), and Multiple Virtual Storage (MVS). In 1983, DB2 for MVS Version 1 was born. "DB2" was used to witness a shift from hierarchical databases—such as the Information Management System (IMS) favorite at the time—to the novel relational databases. DB2 progress continued on mainframe platforms as well as on distributed platforms.1Figure 1.1 shows some of the highlights of DB2 history.

    In 1996, IBM announced DB2 Universal Database (UDB) Version 5 for distributed platforms. With this version, DB2 was able to store entire kinds of electronic data, including traditional relational data, as well as audio, video, and text documents. It was the first version optimized for the Web, and it supported a scope of distributed platforms—for example, OS/2, Windows, AIX, HP-UX, and Solaris—from multiple vendors. Moreover, this universal database was able to rush on a variety of hardware, from uniprocessor systems and symmetric multiprocessor (SMP) systems to massively parallel processing (MPP) systems and clusters of SMP systems.

    Even though the relational model to store data is the most prevalent in the industry today, the hierarchical model never lost its importance. In the past few years, due to the popularity of eXtensible Markup Language (XML), a resurgence in the consume of the hierarchical model has taken place. XML, a flexible, self-describing language, relies on the hierarchical model to store data. With the emergence of novel Web technologies, the requisite to store unstructured types of data, and to share and exchange information between businesses, XML proves to live the best language to meet these needs. Today they behold an exponential growth of XML documents usage.

    IBM recognized early on the jiffy of XML, and great investments were made to deliver pureXML technology; a technology that provides for better advocate to store XML documents in DB2. After five years of development, the effort of 750 developers, architects, and engineers paid off with the release of the first hybrid data server in the market: DB2 9. DB2 9, available since July 2006, is a hybrid (also known as multi-structured) data server because it allows for storing relational data, as well as hierarchical data, natively. While other data servers in the market, and previous versions of DB2 could store XML documents, the storage routine used was not exemplar for performance and flexibility. With DB2 9's pureXML technology, XML documents are stored internally in a parsed hierarchical manner, as a tree; therefore, working with XML documents is greatly enhanced. In 2007, IBM has gone even further in its advocate for pureXML, with the release of DB2 9.5. DB2 9.5, the latest version of DB2, not only enhances and introduces novel features of pureXML, but it likewise brings improvements in installation, manageability, administration, scalability and performance, workload management and monitoring, regulatory compliance, problem determination, advocate for application development, and advocate for trade partner applications.

    DB2 is available for many platforms including System z (DB2 for z/OS) and System i (DB2 for i5/OS). Unless otherwise noted, when they consume the term DB2, they are referring to DB2 version 9.5 running on Linux, UNIX, or Windows.

    DB2 is fragment of the IBM information management (IM) portfolio. Table 1.1 shows the different IM products available.

    What is the architecture of DB2? | real questions and Pass4sure dumps

    What is the architecture of DB2?

    That is a short question that requires a very long answer. The following overview is adapted from my book, DB2 Developer's sheperd ( Conceptually, DB2 is a relational database management system. Physically, DB2 is an amalgamation of address spaces and intersystem communication links that, when adequately tied together, provide the services of a relational database management system.

    Each DB2 subsystem consists of from three to five tasks started from the operator console. Each of these started tasks runs in a portion of the CPU called an address space.

    The first address space is the DBAS, or Database Services Address Space. DBAS provides the facility for the manipulation of DB2 data structures. The default denomination for this address space is DSNDBM1. (The address spaces may beget been renamed at your shop.) This component of DB2 is liable for the execution of SQL and the management of buffers, and it contains the core logic of the DBMS. The DBAS consists of three components, each of which performs specific tasks: the Relational Data System (RDS), the Data Manager (DM), and the Buffer Manager (BM).

    Next is the SSAS, or System Services Address Space. SSAS coordinates the attachment of DB2 to other subsystems (CICS, IMS/TM, or TSO). SSAS is likewise liable for entire logging activities (physical logging, log archival, and BSDS). DSNMSTR is the default denomination for this address space. DSNMSTR is the started assignment which contains the DB2 log.

    The third address space required by DB2 is the IRLM, or Intersystem Resource Lock Manager. The IRLM is liable for the management of entire DB2 locks (including deadlock detection). The default denomination of this address space is IRLMPROC.

    The next DB2 address space, DDF, or Distributed Data Facility, is optional. The DDF is required only when you want distributed database functionality. If your shop must enable remote DB2 subsystems to query data between one another, the DDF address space must live activated.

    The final address space (or train of address spaces) is devoted to the execution of stored procedures and user-defined functions. These address spaces are known as the Stored Procedure Address Spaces, or SPAS. If you're running DB2 V4, only one SPAS is available. For Under DB2 V5 and later releases, however, if you're using the MVS WorkLoad Manager (WLM), you can define multiple SPAS. These five address spaces contain the logic to handle entire DB2 functionality effectively.

    This response is continued.
